~The Castle of the Velasco or better known as "The tower of Lezana", is of exceptional importance for the seigniorialization of the villages of the Mena Valley from the middle of the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. At that time a small local nobility was consolidated to which Menese lineages belonged such as the Ortiz, Vivanco, Vallejo, Gil and Angulo. The latter were the ones who built it in 1397. ~Due to the constant struggles between Muslims and Christians at the time, the construction has an offensive profile.~The Velasco family was gaining power throughout the territory of the north of Burgos and in the fifteenth century they took ownership of the Tower. ~~Completely reformed in 1850, according to cadastre data, but in the last decade it was reformed again and adapted to the present times. ~With a height of almost 20 meters, walls of great thickness, with regular ashlar stone, masonry and marked on its flanks and in the center of its canvases by cubes and towers that protect and isolate it from the outside. ~In this area, between the wall and the tower, also in recent years a HEATED POOL WAS MADE, with waves to swim against the current, and with a very special design.~The access to the patio is through a pointed entrance opening, located in the south tower of the wall, and with a second access from the east where we find a TXOKO with fireplace and bar, and two distinguished services among gentlemen and ladies. ~~On the ground floor of the tower were the stables and for security it was not connected to the rest of the floors.
